An international license holder has to obtain a Texas license after moving to the state for permanent residency or full time job. Vision test and medical screening, written test, and driving test are required to be able to obtain Texas driver's license.

Teen Drivers

If you are under the age of 18, you must prove that you have obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent or are currently enrolled in a public or private school. If you are under 18 years old, you will be enrolled into Texas Graduated Driver License (GDL) Program. All original licenses, other than an Instruction Permit, issued to drivers under 18 years of age will be marked “PROVISIONAL.” “Under 21” will be printed on the licenses of drivers under 21 years of age.

  6. Applicants transferring an Out of State driver license must present their Out of State driver license, Social Security card (or one of the other acceptable documents for social security number) AND one other form from the “Primary Listing”.

After getting your permit, when you start learning driving, you must be accompanied by an experienced driver to supervise your driving. You must be accompanied by someone at least 21 years old with a valid license and with at least 1 year's driving experience .
